Paradox interactive just issued a press release stating that an expansion to the Penumbra series (bobdog's review) of adventure games is coming under the title of Penumbra: Requiem. Details about the new game are not provided but according to the press release it is aimed at "tying up loose ends from previous installments". Frictional games is of course working on this expansion since they are the ones who started the Penumbra phenomenon.

Jens Nilsson, one of the co-founders of the Swedish studio has this to say about the new project:

Quote
After the launch of Penumbra: Black Plague we realized that we still had some unfinished ideas for features and story line that we wanted to implement. An expansion like this will be the perfect end to a series that has given both us and the players so much.

Unlike the previous games, the expansion Penumbra: Requiem will be available as download only and exclusively from GamersGate. The release is scheduled for 2008.

Umm-kay -- so it IS a trilogy after all?!  Huh  Why not just add this extra content into the second game and make it a richer experience? Unless this is a new character who is undertaking your character's bidding....

I liked both games, but felt the second was certainly shorter than the first and not quite as good overall. Maybe if they had come out with this during the release, I would have felt a little bit friendlier.  mad1
