The upcoming survival horror FPS title Left 4 Dead triggered a lot of talks around when its developer Turtle Rock Studios was acquired by Valve last January. Still, back then there was not much recent info that could be gathered about the game. Last week, Electronic Arts (that will be in charge of the retail publication) organized a little event in Munich to present the game further. Hence we have some new info and some new screens to go with it and also this may be sadly the last time we talk about it on The Foxhole.

Why? Because even though the game will contain a single player feature, EA made perfectly clear that the main of focus of Left 4 Dead, as well as the only real interest, will be to oppose teams of players over a network one playing the survival side and the other the undead one. And as far as multiplayer goes, the features seem to be tailored for a fun gameplay. However, our policy about games is to put the emphasis on those who feature a solid single player part and the story going with it. Multiplayer can be a component of the games we talk about but not the main one which is precisely the case for Left 4 Dead. There are enough multiplayer sites across the web to take care of such games.

In the future though we may be called to talk about it again should the game, after its release, come with nice single player mods (like the Unreal Tournament series which despite its emphasis on multiplayer always had some great single player mods developed for it) or should the single player part be made a real one. So here are some screenshots and we're done with Left 4 Dead, at least for now.

Looks very nice, and I might even have fun with the multiplayer part if played with the right group of people (ie. someone hopefully older than a 8-15 yr old age bracket).  The single player getting the shaft isn't really unexpected; most single player games in primarily multiplayer games are really nothing more than training exercises for the multiplayer part.

However, if they can make it a fun experience for the single player crowd, that'd be great.

I still want my They Hunger 2, though  Grin

P.S. I really, REALLY want to play the part of the old, crusty Vietnam vet with a heart of gold.  turnhappy
