Well, we don't talk a lot about strategy games  because they generally feature a steep learning curve and not everyone has the time for that. However, I'll mention this one Napoleon's Campaigns simply because I know that someone in The Foxhole is a real fan of the Napoleonic Era (and the history of warfare in general).

The guys of Ageod Studio (they were also responsible for the previous game Birth Of America and American Civil War) just released an English demo for the game and as far as I've been able to test it, it seems historically accurate. It is not simple to master though and to be frank I even completed one scenario winning without really knowing why  lol

In the full game, you'll be able to take control of La Grande Armée in the big battles of this period or you'll also have the possibility to take control of the opposing side (the different coalitions). Authors claim that you'll also be able to win Waterloo if you do right (well as a matter of fact the real battle was a close one and could have been a French victory if it wasn't for the misplaced orders of Marshal Ney at some point an the unfortunate miscommunication with Grouchy).

Well, the game is far to be easy to master but it's still something to check out for some, if you are in strategy games that is and a fan of history... So get the demo there.

Available in France since last November (hey they started with Napoleon's homeland, nothing shocking in that) Napoleon's Campaigns will be released this coming April for Europe. No clear release date seems to have been determined for North America.

En Avant!

Looks interesting, so I'll check out the demo. What have I got to lose? Less than Boney did Grin

I actually play this sort of thing now and then. Lately, when I need a break from the Elder Scrolls madness, I'll play a bit of the Napoleonic conversion for "Rome-Total War", which is a lot of fun. It reminds me of the wargames we used to play with little 25mm miniature soldiers back in the pre-computer days. Only it's less complicated and doesn't involve dice. No campaign elements to it, just a selection of battlefields and troops, set up two armies and have at it. They have an "American Wars" version, which covers the American Revolution, Civil War, etc, but that's based off of "Medieval Total War", which I don't have, so I've never tried it.

Ah, Waterloo...Wellington said that the battle was a "near run thing", and right he was, could have went either way, like you said. Poor Grouchy, I kind of feel bad for him. He had a long and rotten life after 1815. The Waterloo movie has it's good and bad points, but I like the scene where Grouchy, or "Manny" as I like to call him, is chasing the Prussians, while his aide is saying "We must march to the sound of the guns!", all the while looking like a constipated goat.
A tad misleading, he was hung up fighting a small Prussian rearguard of Landwehr, who he may have mistook for Blücher's main army. Still, he had the entire right wing of the French army marching around pointlessly. Who knows what would have happened if he had marched to the guns?

Wellington: Are those troops coming at us Prussians of French?
Uxbridge: They are French, my Lord.
Wellington: Oh crap. No statues for me then, eh?

And what if it hadn't rained all night, and Napoleon could move his guns without the hideous mud? And Ney, le Brave des Braves , hadn't thought Wellington was retreating, and wasted the cavalry? His other nickname was Le Rougeaud , which I bet he was, after pulling that boner. After making that mistake, is what I mean, not that he actually pulled on a....well, never mind. American slang can be confusing sometimes.  turnhappy
